Speedy Singhs’ movie review and its photos

Speedy Singhs’ is the journey of an Indo-Canadian- Rajveer Singh (Vinay Virmani), who is torn between his traditional family beliefs and his dream career, in the sports of ice-hockey. His father Darvesh Singh (Anupam Kher), is his biggest hindrance as he wants him to make it big in Uncle Sammy’s (Gurpreet Guggi) truck business. Uncle Sam’s son-in-law, Sonu (Russell Peters) adds to Rajveer’s misery, courtesy the small tiff between them over Uncle’s business. In the course of time, when Rajveer finds no space in Canadian team, he builds up his own team of Sikhscalled Speedy Singhs with Dan Winters (Rob Lowe) as their coach. Now, will Rajveer be able to convince his father for his hockey career or will he go ahead against his father’s will, forms the rest of the story.

The film comes perilously close to skidding off the edge time and again. If it doesn’t, it isn’t for any great merit in the script. It is just that the film’s ambitions are so limited that even when it hits the wall and collapses, it manages to pull itself up and return to the safety of its constricted sphere of operation. Speedy Singhs isn’t interested in going anywhere in particular.

If you happen to be in the mood for charity, you could actually look at this entire concoction quite differently. Speedy Singhs derives its plot conventions from a multiplicity of genres. It’s a sports flick, a family drama, a Hollywood rom-com and a fluffy, feel-good Bollywood ride all rolled in one. Take your pick.

Lead actor Vinay Virmani, likeable on the screen, turns in a competent performance, as do Kher and Lowe. American actress Camilla Belle, Canadian stand-up comedian Russell Peters and Indian-American actress Noureen DeWulf do their best within the limitations of the screenplay. But as with much else in Speedy Singhs, they end up being caricatures.

Nenu Naa Rakshasi Tamil Movie Review:
Handsome hunk Rana and Sexy Siren Ileana starrer Nenu Naa Rakshasi have hit the screens world-wide today. Nenu Naa Rakshasi is touted as a romantic thriller with an underlying message. Director Puri Jagannadh has crafted the film with a mix of action, love and entertainment. Nenu Naa Rakshasi gives a message that committing suicide is not the permanent solution to the temporary problems in life. Nallamalupu Bujji has produced the film lavishly, where most part of the film was shot in Venice. Rana and Ileana has pinned high hopes on Nenu Naa Rakshasi as the former has to establish himself in Tollywood with this second film while Ileana has no notable hits in the recent times and she needs a hit badly. Nenu Naa Rakshasi is an action packed love story, In which, Rana Daggubati playing the role of professional killer and Ileana playing the female lead in this movie. Abhimanyu Singh of Rakta Charitra fame is playing the negative lead role. Abhimanyu received many praises for his role as Bukka Reddy in Rakta Charitra and Mumaith Khan in negative roles. Puri Jagannath directing this movies and Nallamalupu Srinivas producing this flim under Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Productions banner.Nenu Naa Rakshasi Movie has come good as well packed action cum love story. In this telugu movie Rana Daggubati plays professional killer role and Ileana playing the female role lead in this movie.

Vaanam Tamil Movie Review:
Vaanam features five different stories of five different characters. All five stories run parallely at a time and they meet at a point to find a solution which forms the climax. Cable Raja (Simbu) lives in slums and aspires to live a rich life by marrying a rich girl friend. He fakes a rich girl played by Pooja (Jasmine). A sex worker Saroja (Anushka) elopes from a brothel house and plans to lead her own life. Bharath Chakravarthy (Bharath) aims to become a famous rock star and he starts his journey with his friends to give a live performance. Prakash Raj and his wife Zara (Sonia) gets discriminated for being a Muslim and plans to leave for Dubai to make a living out there. Saranya Ponvannan is desperate to get funds for her son studies and also has some debts to be cleared. Due to various conditions all of them land up in a Hospital. How all these stories mix with each other in the climax makes for an interesting screenplay?Though the film deals about several characters, but all the roles have equal scope for performance. Cable Raja is surely going to stick in Kollywood memory and would make an impact on the minds of audiences. Simbu is the pillar of the film and he is show stellar undoubtedly. He gave most heart-warming performance in many sequences. Bharath has a less footage when compared with Simbu, but he pulled of a decent job. Definitely the film would earn him the name that he is a very good artiste. Anushka titillates as prostitute Saroja and comes across as genuine and lives up to the requirement. She is striking in every frame, and in fact her role is irreplaceable by anyone. Hats off! Prakash Raj and Sonia did a decent job and He gave a power-packed performance as a righteous Muslim who is troubled by the cop. Jasmine looks glamorous by acting like a doll and Vega (Bharath’s girl friend) is okay. All other actors have done a great job but lame person of the audience would certainly feel there were too many characters involved however the script emerges winner. It is a multiple story film where all the stories join the climax. It is really a tough job to bring five different stories into one film that too in a gripping way. Undoubtedly Krish is the hero of Vaanam and he did a splendid job though he is two films old. He connected all the stories in a brilliant manner with awestruck screenplay. Dialogues are very heart touching and are asset for the film. Hats off to Kannan and Giri. Yuvan’ music is outstanding when added with visuals. All the songs are nicely integrated into story line and Background score is very good and very apt for the movie. Cinematography by Nirav Shah is of top-notch quality while Editing by Anthony Gonsalves is excellent. First half of the movie is quite interesting towards the interval while second half raises the pulse rate of the audiences with each passing frame. It is a big experiment to do such a sensible film with commercial actors. Finally Vaanam has touched every facet of life be it religious conviction or money or relation. Simbu and Anushka should be appreciated for accepting this kind of movies, which doesn’t give them any commercial mileage. The actors brought novelty and undoubtedly Vaanam stands as a winner at the box office. Hats off Krish and the entire team of Vaanam!

Chalo Dilli Hindi Movie Review:
Delhi is the ‘centre of attraction’ these days with movie-makers setting the premise of their films in this city. Whether it was the thoroughly enjoyable BAND BAAJA BAARAAT or the much celebrated NO ONE KILLED JESSICA in the recent past, both depicted the flavors of the city, while the city also had a significant role to play in those movies. Now CHALO DILLI, directed by Shashant Shah, talks about a journey that originates in Mumbai, travels to Jaipur and concludes in Delhi. The moment the synopsis of a film is revealed, a Google search helps you get to the original source of the film. It’s true that CHALO DILLI borrows from DUE DATE [2010], but one can’t help but draw parallels with PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES [1987] as well, which remains a benchmark for odd couples embarking on an error-prone adventure. The basic plotline of CHALO DILLI may have been derived from these two films because DUE DATE and PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES also depicted a chalk-and-cheese pair that is traveling from point A to point B, but CHALO DILLI has been Indianized to make it different from the original films. In fact, the writer ensures that the incidents are desi and hence, different. From dhabas in the middle of the desert to camel cart journeys to the conversation with the Bengali couple in the train, it comes across as a desi film actually. CHALO DILLI offers opportunity to tap the comic side of the two actors [Vinay Pathak is proficient when it comes to this genre] and even though there are a few flat moments, the film hits the right spot on several occasions. Also, this journey brings to fore the innumerous eccentricities of people in general. It’s also about learning some truth about life, coming in contact with real people and real situations. That’s precisely what makes the movie identifiable to the viewer. On the flipside, the assorted characters that this couple encounters in this journey don’t really contribute in making it an adventurous and thrilling ride. These characters, with the sole exception of perhaps the ticket checker and the Bengali couple they encounter in the train, are at best passable. The film gets dramatic towards the concuding moments, which seems appropriate from the writing point of view, but had it been told crisply, the impact would’ve been effectual. CHALO DILLI is a road movie. Mihika [Lara Dutta], who works for a multinational financial institution, is heading back home from Mumbai to Delhi [to her husband who lives there] and misses her flight and encounters Manu [Vinay Pathak], a podgy and loud person who has a small shop at Karol Bagh, Delhi. Manu is everything that Mihika isn’t. Loud. Crass. Obnoxious. Rude. He is that guy who talks on his cell phone loudly and then sputters gutkaa juice much to the horror of those present in the vicinity. As fate would have it, Mihika lands up in a situation where she and Manu are stuck together for the rest of the journey to Delhi. It’s a bizarre journey with the oddest travelling couple ever. A bizarre journey through air, road and rail from Mumbai, via Jaipur to Delhi. Director Shashant Shah, who tackled an emotional tale in his debut outing DASVIDANIYA, moves over to a more popular format – comedy – with CHALO DILLI. The humor isn’t slapstick or the mindless type, yet real, projected through Vinay’s character. Like the characters embark on an uneven ride in the story, the viewer too feels the same while watching this one. It hits the right notes [in the first hour mainly], but isn’t as charming at several places in the second hour. In fact, post the train portions, the incidents aren’t as amusing and exciting. The writing is inconsistent and so is the direction. However, it’s the lead actors who salvage the show, especially Vinay. The songs don’t play an integral role in the film, yet ‘Laila O Laila’, an item song filmed on Yana Gupta, and ‘Matargashtiya’ are most noticeable. I wish the title track was played more often or used in the background at vital points to enhance the impact. Though a road movie, the cinematography doesn’t make you go into raptures, which should’ve been the case frankly. CHALO DILLI is speckled with sharp and witty lines delivered with accurate timing by the amazing Vinay Pathak, who never disappoints you. He’s the soul of the enterprise. Lara gets the character right and though there are a few rough edges in her performance, there’s no denying that she’s extremely convincing as a lady who belongs to the upper crust and who absolutely loathes people like Vinay. In fact, Lara and Vinay both seize this opportunity with both hands and give it their best shot. Amongst the host of characters they encounter in the journey, Brijendra Kala, the ticket checker, leaves the maximum impact and so does the Bengali couple. Akshay Kumar is likable in a cameo. On the whole, CHALO DILLI is exciting and amusing in parts. The film has some terrific moments, but the writing could’ve been more persuasive towards the post-interval portions. Yet, all said and done, there’s something nice about it, despite the blemishes. Decent watch!
